Cleveland Indians sign international free-agent right-hander Chen-Chang Lee of Taiwan
The signing of Taiwanese right-hander Chen-Chang Lee represents the Indians‘ biggest expenditure in the international free-agent market since they signed Cuban defector Danys Baez for $4.5 million in 1999.

Some Indians players have used the team’s disappointing season to raise their stock. Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, for example. Friday night Choo hit two home runs to help lead the Indians to a 6-5 win over Detroit.
Choo also had four RBIs, matching his career high. Choo has made the most of his playing time this season, having moved ahead of Ben Francisco as the Indians‘ No. 3 hitter.
Choo has 25 RBIs in his last 23 games, and in his last 21 games he is hitting .430 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs. For the season overall, Choo is hitting .307 with 13 home runs and 57 RBIs.
Choo missed most of the first half of the season while recovering from “Tommy John” surgery last year.
